Men have long been concerned with the size of their penis - and, until recently, there was little they could do about it. Pills
and potions have proven ineffective, while bizarre
stretching devices
aren't just pointless, but risk permanent damage, too.
But
now a cosmetic surgeon on London's Harley Street is offering
dissatisfied men a game-changer - the chance to get what Mother Nature
denied them thanks to an operation called the penoplasty.
The
procedure, which sees fat taken from the abdomen or lower back and
re-implanted along the penile shaft, is undertaken by more than twenty
men each week at the London Centre for Aesthetic Surgery and costs roughly £3,500.
Results are instant, but all surgery carries risk - and, in this case, that includes the transplanted fat turning lumpy, although this is managed by massaging the tissue.
Here, Daniel - a 39 year-old from Brighton, who asked us to protect his identity - tells his story exclusively to MailOnline.
DANIEL'S STORY
I
never thought I'd be the sort of person to have penis enlargement
surgery, but it happened by chance after I decided to have liposuction
on my belly.
I lost a lot of weight when my marriage broke down in 2011, but I still couldn't shift the stubborn paunch around my middle.
So,
after doing some research, I looked into a modern form of liposuction
called Vaser, which is a keyhole version of the old-fashioned, more
aggressive technique.
It was during the consultation for this
that my surgeon offered to replant the flat back into my body.
Specifically, either in my face or penis.
At first I laughed, then I was offended. But - after some thought - I gradually warmed to the idea.
I
wasn't unhappy with my size before, but this seemed an opportunity
worth taking, especially if I was already undergoing surgery. It was a
case of 'waste not want not' because the fat would only have been thrown
away.
But, when the day came, I felt
quite nervous. The idea of somebody operating on my penis wasn't
pleasant, but I was assured the risks were minimal and that there'd be
no loss of function down below.
The excess inches around his waistline added extra inches to his penis
I was sedated - but awake - for the lipo,
which was gentle and precise. It took 30 minutes and they collected
eight syringes of fat.
The doctor then
made a small incision at the base of my penis and used an anaesthetic to
numb the pubic area. He then re-injected the fat into the shaft.
There
was some pulling and stretching to ensure the fat was evenly-spread,
which was slightly unpleasant, but it certainly wasn't painful - and the
results were immediate.
For the first
24 hours I had to wear loose-fitting boxer shorts and was under strict
instructions to avoid penetrative sex for a few weeks.
Daniel's unwanted 'love handles' also vanished after the surgery
But I didn't mind because it was already much thicker and also seemed heavier.
My
girlfriend commented on the extra girth and, when we eventually had
sex, confirmed that it made a significant difference, so we've both
benefited.
I know men will wince, but
I'm so happy I had the surgery. My penis is considerably bigger, but
what's grown the most is my confidence.
Double act: Twins Roberto (left) and Maurizio Viel (right) pioneered the
penoplasty in 1996, but it has only recently become their
most-requested operation with twenty performed each week
The surgeon who pioneered the treatment, Dr Roberto Viel, says it is surprisingly simple.
'Penoplasty
is a day case procedure and is performed under local anaesthetic with
IV sedation, so there's no need for an overnight stay. The operation
usually takes about 45 minutes and healing time is minimal.
'To
increase girth we perform a small amount of liposuction to collect fat,
usually on the stomach or thigh, followed by re-introduction of the fat
by injection along the shaft,' he tells MailOnline.
'The
usual increase in girth (circumference) is between 1 to 2 inches, but
any more than that is excessive and can hurt the women in their lives,'
he adds.
'Given that the vagina is
only sensitive in the lower third area, it is more important to increase
the width or girth, rather than the length.
'We believe that the penoplasty is justified when the psychological benefits outweigh the risk and cost of the procedure.
'However, a man's best sexual organ is his brain - and most men feel much more confident about themselves after the operation.'
