One of the most deadliest diseases in women is the ovarian cancer and
it is also known as ‘’the silent killer’’. Do you wonder why it is
called like that? –Well because its symptoms are hard to
notice on early
stage they seem like a routine or normal menstrual symptoms. American
Cancer Society stated that 70 to 80% of women diagnosed with advanced or
late stage of ovarian cancer died and that only 20 to 30% are still
alive 5 years later.
That is so because today there are still no good routine screening
tests in order for the patients to diagnose the ovarian cancer in early
stage. And it is usually diagnosed in advanced stage and the chances of
surviving it are becoming really low.
The early symptoms of this type of cancer are really hard to notice
and they are a few that can actually really be noticed, such as feeling
of lower abdominal bloating or feeling of fullness or mild congestion in
the pelvis. But both of them can be normal menstrual symptoms.
Another fact about this type of cancer is that the risk of developing
of ovarian cancer is increasing with age. So if you notice some new and
unexplained symptoms and they are present from more than 14 days, you
should visit a doctor in order to get a complete pelvic exam. And if the
doctor says that those symptoms should not be taken seriously and that
you should not do anything, do not listen, just ask for the tests! You
shouldn’t wait if you notice unexplained symptoms!
When you go to the doctor’s office, ask your doctor to manually check
for any abnormal growths as well as pelvic ultrasound because that is
the best way to do a pelvic exam. Also it is recommended to do blood
tests and CT Scan. Another way to confirm the diagnosis is exploratory
surgery and you should always request the most experienced and most
specialized surgeon.
What can increase your risk of getting this type of cancer is a family history of ovarian, breast and colorectal cancers.
Below we will list the signs of ovarian cancer and if you notice only
one you shouldn’t ignore it because that can maybe save your life! They
can be symptoms of other diseases too but like we said do not ignore
them! And they are:
-Fatigue
-Constipation
-Low back pain
-Persistent gas or indigestion
-Pain with sexual activity
-Increased frequency of urination
-Pelvic pain or discomfort
-Increase in the size of your abdomen, clothes fitting tighter around your hips and waist
-Losing appetite, or feeling full quickly after eating
