A major international manhunt had been launched for Anis Amri who is suspected of ploughing a lorry into crowds of revellers in the German capital on Monday night, killing 12 and maiming dozens of others.

An Italian security source has now revealed the suspect has been shot dead in the suburb of Sesto San Giovanni in the northern Italian city of Milan.
He is understood to have pulled a gun on a police patrol after being stopped for a routine ID check and shot an officer in the shoulder leaving him seriously injured.
A shoot out then took place at about 3am local time and he was reportedly heard shouting 'Allahu Akbar' as he tried to flee and police opened fire.
Police saw a man in his twenties, of North African appearance, outside the deserted Sesto San Giovanni station in the north of the city at 3am.
When the patrol approached him, he pulled a weapon from his backpack and shot a policeman in the shoulder, according to Corriere della Sera.
The suspect, who Italian sources believe was Europe’s most wanted man Anis, tried to run but he was shot dead in the road.

Pictures show forensics examining the scene this morning.
Although there was no official confirmation that the dead man was Amri, the Italian Interior Ministry is expected to hold a press conference on Friday morning in Rome.
It comes hours after two men were arrested at a mosque in Berlin where Amri is believed to have been seen both before and after the atrocity.
This morning there had been reported sighting of him in Aalborg, Denmark - but this now appears to have been a false alarm.- Daily Mail
