Former Governor of Adamawa State Murtala Nyako stripped of traditional title

The Lamido of Adamawa, Dr. Aliyu Mustafa Barkindo, has dismissed former governor Murtala Nyako, as a member of the Emirate Council, and has also withdrawn the traditional title of “Sarkin Yamma,” earlier bestowed on him, The Guardian reports. According to a statement made available to journalists, yesterday, in Yola, the senior son of

Nyako, Abdul-Aziz Nyako, who is the serving senator representing Adamawa Central Senatorial District, has also been stripped of his traditional title as “Sarkin Matasa.”
The statement stated that the measure was taken in view of the recent massive corruption charges brought against the duo by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and their subsequent arraignment.
“Since Admiral Murtala Nyako, and his son, Abdul-Aziz Murtala Nyako are both title holders, and the former being a member of the Adamawa Emirate Council have been indicted by the EFCC, and arraigned before a court of law for corruption and looting, the Adamawa Emirate Council has decided to withdraw the title of Sarkin Yamma and Sarkin Matasa from Nyako and his son,” the statement said.
