A kingpin of a kidnapping syndicate terrorizing Abia and Rivers
States has been arrested by operatives of Abia State by Special
Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Aba Area Command. The suspected kingpin identified as Ogochukwu Ihedioha and his gang
that specializes in abducting targeted victims from Aba to
their hideout
identified as Umuakwu community, Eberi Omuma in Omuma council area of
Rivers state was accused of kidnapping a clergy at Clifford road Aba and
another female victim from Ngwa both respectively on 11th May.
It was learnt that the SARS team, acting on a tip off rescued the two
kidnapped victims unhurt and without payment of ransom, but Ihedioha
and some members of his gang escaped from their hideout when police
struck.
A female member of the syndicate identified as Izuchi Nwaforala was
nabbed in the operation while items including one SMG rifle, 25 rounds
of live ammunitions were all recovered in the process.
The continued manhunt on the gang however paid off when acting on
information, Ihedioha who lives at No.9 Ekwulobia Street, Diobu, Port
Harcourt, Rivers State was later nabbed.
Ihedioha, it was gathered confessed to the crime and admitted being a member of the gang during interrogation.
Abia State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ezekiel Onyeke
confirmed the arrest of the kidnap kingpin and added that the Police are
on the trail of other members of the gang.
Onyeke further stated that arrangements were on the way to hand the
suspects over for prosecution and called for the continued corporation
of the public in making sure that criminal elements in their
neighbourhood were flushed out.
