WBO world welterweight champion, Manny Pacquiao, has been elected into the Phillipines’ Senate on Thursday. The 37-year-old, who retired from boxing to join politics last year,
was declared among 12 new members of the upper house of Congress, by the
Elections’ Commission.
Last week, voters went to the polls to choose a president,
vice-president, 12 Senators, 200 members of the lower house of Congress
and 18,000 local officials.
Pacquiao told reporters: “I can focus and discipline myself, the way I did in boxing to help the nation.”
The two-term Congressman, said he will be pushing for free education
at all levels and restoring the death penalty for drug-related crimes.-Daily Post reports
