Man shot wife over suspected affair

James Nallan, 63, of San Jose, was arrested April 30, 2016 on suspicion of murder in the shooting death of his wife at their home.
A man charged in his wife's killing Saturday at their Evergreen area home told police he bought a handgun and shot her because he believed she was having an affair, according to a police statement of facts submitted to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office.
James Nallan, 63, reported the fatal shooting of 48-year-old Sonia Nallan around 12:45 a.m. and said he would wait for officers outside the home in the 1700 block of Indigo Lane, the statement says.
Officers found Sonia Nallan inside the home suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head. She was rushed to Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead around 1:25 a.m.
James Nallan also identified a handgun found inside the home as the
murder weapon, the statement says.
"James admitted that he felt she was having an affair and confronted her when she returned home that evening," San Jose police Sgt. Patrick Guire wrote in the statement of facts. "During the confrontation he shot her one time in the head with the purchased firearm."
The families of both James and Sonia Nallan were still reeling Tuesday, said Chris Nallan, the younger brother of James Nallan and a pastor at San Jose International Christian Center.
"We have a lot of arrangements to make," said Chris Nallan, adding that Sonia Nallan's funeral is scheduled to take place 1:30 p.m. Friday at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward.
While he wasn't aware of any discord in the marriage, Chris Nallan noted that James Nallan was never quite the same after suffering a serious head injury in a fall about seven years ago.
"I know that he was not well because of the fall and the medication that he was taking," Chris Nallan said. "His emotions were up and down."
James Nallan's arraignment was moved from Tuesday to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to the District Attorney's Office.
The homicide is the 17th of the year in San Jose.- The Mercury News
