congratulated on his 150th birthday. He found other documents form 1877 congratulating Li Ching-Yuen on his 200th birthday. A New York Times correspondent wrote in 1928 that many old men in the neighborhood of Li Ching-Yuen have claimed that their grandfathers knew this old man when they were boys.
This old man is said to start his herbalist career when he was 10 years old, when he collected herbs from mountains and learned about their power of providing longevity. He lived for 40 years on a diet consisted of herbs like goji berry, lingzhi, he shoo wu, gotu kola, wild ginseng, and rice wine. At the age of 71, in 1749, Li Ching Yuen become a teacher of martial arts in the Chinese armies. It is said that people form his community loved him, and that he has married 23 times, and had more than 200 children.
