We’ve stolen three kids in Lagos since February – Suspect

One Samuel Adebanjo who was arrested by policemen attached to Ajegunle Police Station, Lagos state over child theft, has confessed that he and his syndicate had stolen three kids since February. The suspected child thief told the police that he and four other men, simply identified as Tunde, Bidemi, Sunday and Uncle Rasheed specialized in the act and were about to steal the
fourth child when they were nabbed.

Luck ran out on them on Tunkarimu Street in the Ajegunle area at the weekend when alert neighbours sighted them in their attempt to steal the fourth child, identified as Rokeeb Adebisi.

Adebanjo was caught, while others escaped, New Telegraph gathered.

The suspect would have been lynched after angry youths pounced on him but for the timely intervention of the police.

The Divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of Ajegunle Police Station, CSP Aminu Gusau, was said to have swiftly deployed a team of anti-robbery policemen to the scene when he was alerted.

Following his arrest, Adebanjo reportedly feigned being mentally unbalanced when he was asked to take the police to the hideout of his gang members.

He subsequently told the policemen that he and his gang had already kidnapped three victims who were later delivered to ‘Uncle Rasheed.’
The DPO disclosed that the suspect is helping the police with information that would lead to the arrest of the fleeing members of his gang.
