Gunmen killed two policemen, abducted Portuguese

Two policemen attached to Dangote Company’s construction site along the Obajana-Kabba Road, Kogi State, were on Monday killed by gunmen, Punch reports.
They were reportedly shot around 7pm while providing security for the Portuguese expatriates supervising road
construction in the area.
One of the  expatriates was abducted and taken to an unidentified location.
The state Police public Relations Officer, William Aga, who confirmed the incident, said the gunmen were about 15 in number.
He said, “They engaged the two police officers guarding the expatriates in a shootout. They shot the two officers. One died on the spot, while the other died in a hospital.”
Aga identified the deceased cops as Sergeant Gini John and Inspector Ezekiel Negedu, adding that the assailants also kidnapped one of the expatriates, Jose Machada.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ali Janga, was said to have directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations to move to the scene to assess the situation and commence combing of bushes for possible rescue of the victim.
According to the police spokesperson, Janga visited the scene on Tuesday and met with the management of Dangote Company and some expatriates.
The police boss was reported to have  said the command was doing its best to rescue the victim.
“The CP has sent SARS, PMF, SIB and conventional policemen to rescue the victim,” Aga added.
